How to install an English dictionary in Word 2010 for offline use

Hello,

How do you install an English dictionary in Word 2010 for offline use? I don't have internet at home and need to use a dictionary. I seem to remember that Word 2003 used to have a dictionary you could use even if you were not connected to the internet. I'm able to use the thesaurus on Word 2010 at home.

Can someone help?

Thank you.

If you have an English version, proofing tools are included with Office, and they should also be installed. Click Review tab | Language | Set Proofing Language, pick your flavor of English and click the Default button. See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/change-the-default-language-for-office-programs-HA010356057.aspx. For more, see http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/MasterSpellCheck.htm.

I could be wrong, but I think the OP is looking for a dictionary (such as Encarta or American Heritage) that provides definitions, pronunciation, etc.

Good point. OK, in that case, I believe you must purchase an encyclopedia separately and install it.

Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I was looking for a dictionary to view offline. I saw a posting under 'related searches' after I posted my question that said there is no such thing, at least not for Word 2010.

Thank you both for attempting to offer some information.
