"Do not check spelling or grammar" not stay checked

Hi guys.

I'm using "Do not check spelling or grammar" in my style with type "character style".

This style uses for select a words with fixed font in paragraph. I need ignore some keywords in paragraph (like C++ variables names which do not need to check of course) in paragraph text. But when I check checkbox "Do not check spelling or grammar" in style it unchecks after exit from editing of style and grammar checker uses in any case fore words with this style.

How I can ignore spelling checking in some words in paragraph automatically by style (not by selecting "ignore word" for each keyword in my document)? I just want that this will be worked in my style. I have many words in paragraphs which must be ignored in my documents.

Thank you.

This setting is very much like font formatting. It applies to individual characters. It acts in the same way as applying the color Green to some words. If you copy those words somewhere in you document, the formatting goes with them.

You can include the setting in Style formatting, for either a paragraph or a character style.

Click on the Formatting button in the lower left side of the Style modification dialog and pick Language>Proofing Language.

I do not ask where I can find this feature or "what is this?" feature ;-) I'm told you that this feature do not work.

I will explain again.

  1. I'm make checked "Do not check spelling or grammar" in my style (Formatting button in the lower left side of the Style modification dialog and pick Language>Proofing Language)
  2. I'm closes style with saving preferences
  3. I'm open style on Language (Formatting button in the lower left side of the Style modification dialog and pick Language>Proofing Language) and "Do not check spelling or grammar" is unchecked. So it unckecks automatically.

So I meant when I check checkbox "Do not check spelling or grammar" it must be checked in my style after exit from style but it unchecked in my style when I open it again. And grammar spellcheker uses for for this style. And I do not able to turn it off.

It is very unfriendly GUI when some options changes state after push "Ok" button in dialog box. "Ok" button means that options in dialog box must be saved. If this option cannot be saved or cannot be used then it must be disabled or at least some warning must be appear during saving options in dialog box.

And I am telling you that this method does work, for everyone else. There must be something specific to your document or your system that is blocking this.

How about sending the document giving you the problem and I will look at it?

Is this a template or a document?

If a document, do you have the box checked in the dialog for the document template that says "update styles?"

Creating a No Proofing character style is a little tricky, I've found. In order to enable the "Do not check" property, you have to select a language. This is counterintuitive, I think, but you have to tell Word which Proofing Tools not to use. This is discussed at http://WordFAQs.mvps.org/MasterSpellCheck.htm#ExemptingText.

See also http://stackoverflow.com/questions/387453/how-do-you-display-code-snippets-in-ms-word-preserving-format-and-syntax-highlig

It has an answer involving insert--> object --> "openDocument Text" as an alternative method.
