Cannot insert some clip art images using Word 2010 - Error code 0x800C0006

Hi

When I try to insert some (but not all) clip art images into a .docx file I'm getting the following error message when I double-click on the image:

The image does not insert.

I haven't been able to find anything useful to help with that particular error code.

Thanks.

Word 2010

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

What is the source of the images? Is this clip art stored on your hard drive or images from Office Online?

What happens if you click "Was this information helpful?" I would be inclined to at least "send a message to Microsoft" to say no!

I'm sure you've already googled, but here are a few hits I got on the message itself (not the error code):

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/302375/ (specifically for Word 2003, but same message; users elsewhere confirm that the MDAC solution does not apply to Windows 7)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300863 (no "applies to", but recently revised)

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Office_Productivity/Office_Suites/MS_Office/Q_28123401.html (possibly helpful, though sounds like a long shot)

None of the articles seems to have the same error code; most are old and apply to Windows XP or an earlier version of Office. I suspect, however, that the problem originates with Microsoft's deprecation of the Clip Art Gallery.

Hi Suzanne

I have just retried this morning and I cannot reproduce the error.

I was just searching for an image using the Clip Organizer, typing a search term into its search box then selecting an image. I don't know whether these images are all in a library online or my hard disk. If they are online it may have been a temporary connection/retrieval glitch somewhere (although my internet connection was fine at the time)??

I'll leave the thread unmarked for now in case it recurs, but give you a couple of helpful votes,

Thank you for your help.

I can answer one (implied) question: When you have thumbnails displayed in the Clip Art task pane, if you click the arrow beside one (or right-click on it) and choose Preview/Properties from the context menu, you can see the path to the image.

Now that Bing is being used as the source rather than the online Clip Art Gallery, this is less helpful for online images, since the full path will be to a temp folder on your system, and the online URL will be just http://insertmedia.office.microsoft.com.

I have also noticed that, even if you specify that you want only "Illustrations" (that is, drawings) and not photos, you get photos anyway unless you add "clip art" to the search string. OTOH, the old search usually failed if the search string included more than one keyword, but Bing search is comfortable with a longer string.

So what's the solution?

This is exactly what's happening. They have not changed it to use Bing and I get that exact same thing. No preview and choosing properties shows a local temp location and the url being

http://insertmedia.office.microsoft.com

but that doesn't help as I do not see a solution to get this to work. it will not insert and fails with that same picture as the original poster Jetta48 shows

Cannot insert them as it fails with that error code and it does not show the preview.

Which version of Office are you using? Repairing it might help; see https://support.office.com/en-us/Article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b.

However, as Suzanne wrote, it is probably relevant that the clipart organizer is deprecated in Word (and the link http://insertmedia.office.microsoft.com/ is dead). Searching the internet using your favorite search engine can be used as an alternative.

It's office 2010 and it doesn't work in Word or Powerpoint.

Obviously from your comment that clipart organizer is deprecated and the link is dead is why it no longer works so doubtful that repairing it will fix it.

Thanks for the feedback. I assumed that the insertmedia site was no longer functional but couldn't find any evidence or article that backup up my assumption.

Thanks for your quick response and help

Have a great day

Repairing wouldn't fix the link, of course, but repairing Office 2010 may give you access to any locally installed clipart. It might be worth a try.
