Appendix Table Numbering

Hi,

I am having great difficulty with Table / Figure Numbering in Word 2010. 

I have previously created a template document successfully and for the life of me cannot understand why this new template will not work.

The following is happening:

Appendix A - Appendix Title (this is set as heading 5, Appendix Heading)

A.1 - Appendix Sub heading (this is set as heading 6, Appendix Sub heading)

I wish to insert a table as follows:

Table A.1 - referring to Appendix A.  However, what I get is... Table 0.1.  Why does the Styleref not reference the Heading 5?  Everything I can see is set to Alphabetical numbering etc etc.

To be clear all other tables / figures in the body of the document work fine.

When setting the "numbering" for the Heading 5, did you select the A,B,C numbering or simply type in Appendix A?

Hi Doug,

The numbering is automated with the heading style. There is no manual typing in of numbers.

The sub headings work i.e A.1 and A.1.1. The page numbering is also set to look at the chapter no. 'A' but when inserting a table caption to include the chapter no. It returns Table 0.1 instead of A.1. Hope this is clear. I have inserted a field 'styleref' > Appendix Heading 5. Driving me nuts!!

But, how about when you defined the Heading5 Style?  If you insert another instance of it, do you get Appendix B?

I would point the styleref to the base stylename "Heading 5" rather than its alias "Appendix Heading"

Maybe you should post a sample document so we can have a look at how you have configured the numbering.
