.pdf to Word for free?

Is there an inexpensive or - better yet - free program to translate .pdf documents into Word? I have a program that lets me read .pdf files, but I like to change the font and be able to delete parts I have already read - can't do that in Adobe reader and can't spend the money to purchase a program to do it for me.

 

I have Adobe Reader and Sumatra pdf which both allow me to read the files and/or print them, but I cannot paste them into Word successfully.

Buying Word freestanding is usually not cost-effective, but there are usually "lite" editions of Office (such as Home & Student, Home & Business) that have fewer apps and more restrictive licensing. Office 2013/Office 365 has an entirely new licensing structure (including a subscription model) that can be very confusing (I don't pretend to understand it), but according to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/, you can get any single Office app (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher) for $109.99 and OneNote for $69.99, but you can also get Office Home & Student (Word, Excel, PPT, and OneNote) for $139.99. There are many free PDF to Word converters, some that you install on your computer as local programs, and others that are online (you upload your PDF document and either download the Word document or have it emailed to you). Obviously I haven't tried all of them, so you may have to experiment to see which one is best for your documents.
