How to remove phantom pages in a numbered document

I have written a book and submitted to Amazon's printing service.  I received a hard copy proof and, stupidly, tried to make one more change - to remove page numbers from blank, even-numbered pages preceeding a new chapter.  I succeeded.  However, upon re-submission, I am told I have two additional blank pages following the first one and, indeed, their proof shows the two added pages, also completely blank with no numbers.

I am unable to remove the two pages that I can't see in my document.  I have fooled around with section breaks til I'm blue in the face.  Any suggestions?

Okay, in the first place, you don't want an Even Page break, because that makes the next page begin on an even page, but if you are restarting numbering at 1 in the next section, then Word fill force an odd page; ordinarily I would expect it to just change the Even Page break to Odd Page. You'll generally find it easier to see section breaks in Draft view, and they will be clearly labeled as to type. Just make sure that your second odd page starts with an Odd Page break, and Word will insert a totally blank page (no header, footer, or page number) after the previous odd page (make sure that that odd page doesn't end with a page break).

Since you've obviously got front matter numbered separately, you might want to look at http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/front_matter_2007.htm.
