'^d hyperlink' in Search results in: "Word found no items matching this criteria" in Word 2007

I'm trying to extract hyerlinks that are randomly found all over a Word doc.

Word 2007 extract hyperlink steps I follow:
  1. Press Alt + F9 to display the fields
  2. Ctrl + F to open the search box
  3. Search: ^d hyperlink
  4. Check "Highlight all items found ..."
  5. Click on the Find All button
  6. Close the dialog
  7. Ctrl + C to copy everything that is highlighted
  8. Open a new document and paste.

I am getting stuck on Step 3.
^d hyperlink is not registering: "Word found no items matching this criteria"

If I use the Go To function, Field: HYPERLINK, and press 'Next', Word recognizes each field I want to copy, but for some reason, Find won't highlight them.

What am I missing? I used this function while in XP, but this is the first time trying it in Windows 7.

The ^d hyperlink search works for me, in Word 2007 on Windows 7.

However, the dialog doesn't quite match what you've described -- the Highlight All choice isn't a check box, but clicking it immediately makes the highlights appear, and there is no Find All button. Is this not what you see?

Also, I do get the "no items found" message when the field codes are not displayed -- is it possible that the codes have been collapsed again before you started the search?

One other thing to try is to use ^19 instead of ^d. That number is the code for the left field brace.

Thank you Jay,  for your thorough and quick reply. I tried the ^19, but I get the same result. Here is a screen cap of the result I was talking about:

{won't let me post a 36.3 kb screen cap...  and any smaller and it's unreadable}

Please note that the Word doc will recognize the exact same fields when HYPERLINK is selected in the same doc when using Search, Go To function:
{imagine the lovely screen cap here...}

Sorry:  I wasn't being careful in explaining earlier what happens when I get the "Word found no items matching this criteria." I get that message after I click the Reading Highlight.

thanks for any and all assistance,
reve

I've been fiddling around and I have no idea the whys and hows, but here it is:

If I am working with any of my old Word docs that I saved and backed up when using XP, I cannot Search/Find '^d hyperlink' as stated above.

Now that I am using Windows 7, I can open a new Word 2007 doc, and if I cut and paste info from the same web page, the Search/Find '^d hyperlink' all works just fine and dandy.

But...
BUUUUT...

If I try to copy and paste the date with hyperlinks from an old XP Word 2007 doc to a new doc, the '^d hyperlink' won't work again.
I always get the same message: "Word found no items matching this criteria"

IDK, but there it is. Maybe it's some sort of built-in security, but Word 2007 and/or Windows 7 doesn't want to recognize hyperlinks from my old Word 2007 XP docs.

At least I can get data from a go forward position, but I am disappointed that my backed-up docs will not be able to be mined.

kind regards, reve

I assume you do have the HYPERLINK field codes displayed? Make sure you don't have "Match Case" enabled; that would cause a search for "hyperlink" to fail.

You won't be able to copy/paste if you use Reading Highlight. In order to actually select the found text, you must use "Find in."
