Need answer quickly - CMYK Color conversion

Hi, I have used Word 2003 to create a print book with lots of images that need to be in CMYK for the printer.  What is the easiest way to convert them to CMYK?  I use Publisher to design book covers in CMYK, but trying to avoid having to now convert each page from the Word file to a Publisher page.  I tried importing the file into Publisher, but it only took the text and no images.  Need to get to the printer asap.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Answer

My assumption is that the printer would know how to do that. I know that when I had problems with four-color output from Publisher (I could print separations, but I wasn't happy with them), the printer told me just to send the composite-color PDF, and he would take it from there. In any case, many printers (especially those doing short-run or POD operations) are using printers similar to desktop color laser printers, which are quite capable of printing Word's RGB output to CMYK.

But you might also check whether your PDF authoring software is capable of printing color separations. I  just checked the Help file of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, and it does have information on printing separations.
