Hi everyone. I connected an American Express prepaid gift card with $25 dollars on it to my xbox live account. I proceeded to take advantage of the special "2 months of gold for $2" deal and I believe I also bought some microsoft points. Now the balance on the card is about $4.00 and obviously that is not enough for an automatic renewel of my gold membership (which is about $10 correct?) So what happens in this circumstance? When the time comes for automatic renewel will microsoft realize that there is not enough money on the card and therefore not automatically renew the account? Or will they take whatever is there and then I owe the rest to them in the future? How does this work?

The account will still attempt auto renewal. In order for that to stop, you must call Xbox Customer Support. If the payment is not recieved, your account will suspend after 27 days of non-payment, then it will cancel after 45 days. You'll still owe the money however. Good luck!

The renewal charge of $10 or more will be declined, and your profile will be suspended with a "billing issue" until you pay the debt you owe. To avoid this, make a phone call to Support before the auto-renewal date (such as right now) and turn off auto-renewal.
After your subscription ends (after the two months) and your profile is a Free account again (formerly "Silver"), you can remove the card details from your profile.
