Issue with Xbox one headset

I've had the console for about a week now. Inside the ear piece for the headset there's rattling, which leads me to believe the speaker is disconnected in there somehow? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and everything goes through kinect. Does anyone else have rattling where the speaker is located when they shake their head?

First try this:

Examine and clean your Xbox hardware

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Examine the headset, the cord, and the connector for visible defects.
  2. Make sure that no dirt or debris is on the headset connector. To clean the connector, use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
  3. Verify that your Xbox One Controller operates correctly. Verify that you can use the controller to turn on and turn off the console.
  4. Firmly insert the Xbox One Chat Headset connector into the expansion port that is under the directional pad (D-pad) and the right stick on the controller

or

You hear an echo or noise during game play

Note If you hear an echo effect, it often originates from the person who is talking and not necessarily from the person who hears the echo. For example, if you hear an echo only when someone else talks, the problem may be with the headset connection of the person who is talking.

The following conditions may cause an echo or noise during gameplay:

  • The microphone detects ambient noises. This includes voice transmission that comes from the earpiece.
  • The headset plug is not fully inserted into the controller.
  • You are using the Xbox One Wireless Controller, and the battery levels in the unit are low.

If you or other players hear an echo or other noise during gameplay, try the following:

  • Turn the volume down on your TV or stereo.
  • Disconnect the headset, then reconnect it firmly to the controller's expansion port.
  • Clean the plug on the headset cable with a clean cloth, and then reconnect the headset to the controller.
  • Test the headset by connecting it to a different controller.
  • If you are using an Xbox One Wireless Controller, replace the AA batteries or recharge the Xbox One rechargeable battery.

If none of this works you may want to request a repair from Microsoft.

This doesn't seem to be answered. I got my xbox one on day one but haven't used the headset until last night and have the same issue. It's something inside the ear piece that rattles, as if the speaker is not held in place!

To all who search and find this, I have found the answer....it's a design fault. If you slide the ear piece right down to the bottom position on the headset the sliding mechanism rattles. It doesn't rattle in any other position setting so just click it up one place to stop the annoying rattle.

Captainwellhard you are a genius. Your suggestion works. Having the earpiece fully down causes the rattle. That Microsoft are knocking this piece of junk out for £19.99 amazes me. Doesn't even work most the time. When it does work you can't mute people trash talking, or people playing with their kinect set to use mic for chat, on games like Fifa14 because they don't show up in the 'recent people met' list. With all this new technology your best option is to have a pen and paper at the ready so you can manually search the gamertag later and mute them. Things were/ are so much easier on the 360. Loving my xbox 1 tho btw and I'm sure these thing will get sorted in time. Beats the ps4 hands down and I can say that because I've got one too.
