Okay, I have just bought oblivion (a preowned game, but in v. good condition), and played it for about 40 mins before recieving an error message saying the disc is unreadable. I have tried cleaning the disc, but it doesn't work. Is my hard drive broken? Is there anything I can do without getting my Xbox repaired, and if this is the only option how can I do this and what does it cost. I live in the UK.

I would highly doubt it would be your hard drive as this is generally for memory and saving purposes. Like the previous question are you able to play other media? If so, it likely the disc itself and you may want to resurface or clean the disc. The next probable cause would be the console laser itself, which in some instance can accumulate dust. However in order to verify or resolve such a issue would require opening the console which will void any warranty if not repaired by Microsoft.
