Brand New 250 GB Hard Drive unreadable after attempting transfer HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Heres how it was:

A) I own a Xbox Arcade Edition (Not the S version) and a 20 GB HDD

B) I Purchased a brand new 250 GB and transfer cable. Which worked perfectly when I loaded it into the primary loading dock at the top of the xbox. The machine recognized it and allowed me to save data and games on it.

C) When I plugged the transfer cable into my new hard drive I was prompted to format the HDD in order to make it xbox ready. Like an idiot I pressed OK.

D) When the process was complete I was left with a 250 GB HDD which was only reading at 16 GB and was unreadable. If the HDD is placed in the primary loading dock at the top of the xbox it won't even show up on the console. If its plugged into the usb ports via the transfer cable it only comes up as USB storage device.

Is there anyone out there who can help me:

A) Make my new 250 GB HDD readable again?

B) Tell me if this is a software issue or a hard ware issue? It seems like a software one.

Please help me out!

Once you have done this there is no reversing it so far as I'm aware OP. Unfortunately meaning only the 16GB will be available for use.

If you have an official transfer cable and an official drive, contact Microsoft XBOX support.

If either component is not official, you're out of luck.

You might have recourse with the retailer (exchange) or Microsoft (warranty repair) if this was an HDD purchased new. Be sure you have an official Microsoft transfer cable before trying any future transfers.

Why did you put the new, larger HDD on the transfer cable, anyway? The new drive stays on the console, and the old drive goes on the cable to have its data moved over. (On a new 360S console it couldn't work any other way, since the transfer cable only connects to the original style HDD.) If the system suggested you format your old HDD with all the data on it, it might have been more obvious that something was wrong.
