Gmail rejects my username and/or password

How do I install my Gmail account on Windows Live Mail. I have followed the instructions on my Gmail Account Settings. It still says check your user name and password. My user name and password are correct. It is working with other email clients.

Answer
Answer

This is very misleading.

... Gmail no longer supports Windows Live Mail ...

... not that Gmail ever did, but it's quite possible to send and receive messages with Gmail accounts in Windows Live Mail using either IMAP (the default) or POP3 and SMTP. I use several of each type of account every day.

... you can no longer sign in to Windows Live Mail using your Ggogle account.

Signing in in Windows Live Mail requires a Microsoft Account. If a Gmail address is registered as a Microsoft Account at the sign-up page, it can be used to sign in in Windows Live Mail.

The page I referred maxforce to explains how to work around the hurdles that Google has erected with a view to increasing security.
