Windows 7 - Error Code: 80073701 (Can't install updates KB982526 & KB982526)

(KB982526) Update Failes Erroe Code 80073701 - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB982526)

Windows update constantly attempting to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB982526) and failing with Error  Code 80073701 repeatedly.

After a week of this I went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982526 and followed the link to "For all supported x64-based versions of Windows 7 and of Windows Server 2008 R2" which has two download option and no description of what each applies to. I downloaded and installed Windows6.1-KB979900-x64.msu (Fix for KB979900 (KB979900)) successful but this did not fix the problem. I downloaded Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Shared (KB95848)) Failed Error Code 8007370.


System:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

- KB982526 - Fails 80073701
 - KB979900 - Succeeds
 - KB95848 - Fails 80073701

Hi,

1) Try resetting the windows update components and check if you are able to install.
