I can not access some websites from my computer after the recent windows update

A couple days ago I got a notice that I needed to reboot the computer for windows update to take effect.  I shut the computer down for the night figuring it will finish the update when I turned it on in the morning.  Yesterday when I booted up the computer I tried to go online.  I found that I could not access some websites like yahoo.com or Facebook, yet other sites did work.  Didn't worry about it since I figured it was a temporary thing.  Later in the afternoon I got Facebook to work, sort of, none of the pictures would load, yet pictures on other sites would work, and still no yahoo.com.   Tried using a different browser, same problem, so it is not IE.  Today I tried to access the internet and the same problem.  This time I tried using my son's computer and could get on to all the websites fine.  So it is definitely my computer that has the issue.

Tried the following...

ran Windows Virus checker full scan...  none found

Resetting IE settings via advance options...  didn't work

Double checked router settings...  its fine  no changes

Uninstalled most recent windows updates and rebooted computer...  no changes

reinstalled windows updates above and rebooted computer...  no changes

I have an HP computer originally with windows 7 updated to windows 8 since last November.  No frills added, i.e.. no plugins or other firewalls/virus scanners other than what came with windows 8.  Computer is 7 months old, and is a 64bit computer, not sure what else.

My sons computer is 6+ years old originally with XP updated last November to windows 8 and is a 32 bit computer.

Hi Stanley,

I understand that the computer is not connecting to the internet properly after installing the Windows updates.

1. Are you getting any error message when trying to connect to internet?
2. Are you using a Wireless or Wired connection to connect to internet?
3. What is the model of your HP Laptop?

Thank you for mentioning the troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue. It is greatly appreciated.

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned in the article given below and check if it helps.

I use a wireless connection and just tried a wired connection.  It worked.  My sons computer uses the same wireless adapter so I checked his adapter on my computer.  No dice.  So the issue is with the specific model wireless adapter and my computer.  Tried updating the driver, it said that I have the most current driver already installed.  Not sure what the next step is as I cannot have a dedicated wired connection.

**UPDATED**

tried uninstalling driver, then downloaded the driver files manually from netgear website and reinstalled driver.  Now no websites will work with the wireless adapter.  The computer said I have the most recent driver installed.

 **end update**

Here is the answer to your questions from above...
