How can I delete pending Windows Update downloads?

I shut down my Windows 7 computer when it was in the process of downloading updates and now downloading those updates causes my computer to freeze.  How can I delete those pending updates (2) or reinitiate them?

Please take a look at the following steps thanks to Diana D:

Step 1: Follow the steps under “Method 11” from the article mentioned below:

“Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2”: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

Step 2: Run the Windows Update troubleshooter.
