If you are getting the error when trying to upgrade to Windows 8.1, you may try the following and check if it helps.

Try disconnecting all external devices and make sure you have installed all the available Windows updates including the optional driver and firmware updates.

Method 1:

I would suggest you to boot the computer in a clean boot state and then try to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts and to determine what is causing the problem. Perform a clean boot on the computer by following the steps given in the link:

Ok, I have exactly the same error message. 

1) I have no external devices attached.

2) Same result whether antivirus is on or off, same error if antivirus is off and do a clean reboot

3) Upgrade is from Win 8 Pro with Media center to Win 8.1 Pro.

4) All updates were made prior to first try

5) Before attempting the upgrade, ran advisor.  It said good to go except for a couple of apps like Quick Books Pro 2011 (the create PDF function does not work) and Norton Internet Security (20.4.0.40) and a couple of warnings that video control panel would need to be re-installed after upgrade.

6) Upgrade gets 62% through "few more things" before error meesage appears.

7) restore of Win 8 not completely successful - HP Beats Audio no longer works when Win 8 is automatically restored.  Upgrade advisor did not give warning message about Beats audio

8) HP laptop DV6 i7-2670QM -  4 cores with hyperthreading at 2.2GHz, SSD, 8 GB memory, radeon graphics chip HD6700M along with built in Intel HD3000, 1.5 yr old now.

Any clues about what this error message is about?  (Video drivers were the bane of my existance for a number of years.

Windows 10: Upgrade error 0x8007002C-0x4000D

yes!!

uninstall the avast antivirus and have a try, its really working....the avast antivirus preventing the installation proses..

    and now I'm having windows 10

Here is what worked for me:

Setup: a domain joined HP ProBook 6470b with Windows 7 Pro x86

Antivirus (Kaspersky Endpoint Security) uninstalled

The error log wasn't helpful, it looked like there where Problems with user profiles, so I first removed all roaming profiles, as this didn't help I also removed all local accounts except the Admin.

I even unjoined the domain.

Then I was checking the system and the disk for Errors - no result.

Always the same Error Message 0x8007002C - 0x4000D  ...

Probably a clean install would have worked, but I didn't want to reinstall all the third party software.

Finally I tried it with a clean boot - And voilà it worked!!!

I dont know it any other of the above steps where necessary..
