C:\ProgramData(files erased)

Hai,

Im using Win7(Ultimate) and today while working in my computer, i saw some uninstalled programs not erased in the folder C:\ProgramData. I just Ctrl+del all files in that folder without any thought, but some files were not deleted. Later i saw that the programs that were displayed in the start menu were deleted and only some were listed. I tried to backup by creating a restore point, but unfortunately i dint save any restore points in the past. Then i reinstalled some files like Skype, winamp, Adobe and those files pinned there as newly installed files. But the files like Accessories, Games everything was blank. But all files were working properly. I still donno what to do to get back to the previous state like the programs to be listed propely as before. Please to reply for my query as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Hi SatishN,

Since you have delete the files manually and your do not have any previous restore points, I would suggest you to check if you revert the program data folder to previous version and if you can recover all the files that were deleted.

Try restoring the Program Data folder to an earlier date before you made changes.
1. Right click on Program data folder and click on properties
2. Click on Previous Version tab
3. Select the date when you have made changes in the list
4. Click on Restore button and click on Ok.

If the above steps do not help, you may try to run a repair installation (Inplace upgrade) of Windows 7 and check if it helps. Before you start the inplace upgrade process, you may put the computer in a clean boot state and start the inplace upgrade. Also try to backup the data before starting the upgrade.

Access the link below and follow the steps to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Once the upgrade is complete, see the section on how return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual” and set it to Normal startup.

Steps to perform an Inplace upgrade:

1. Exit all programs before you upgrade to Windows 7. These programs include browsers and media players

2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD into the DVD drive.

3. When the “Install now” screen appears, click on “Install now”.

4. On “Which type of installation do you want?” screen, click Upgrade and follow the instructions to install Windows 7.

Once inplace upgrade is complete, check if all the programs are listed in Accessories and Games.

If you don’t have a Windows 7 Disc and your computer came preinstalled with Windows 7, you may have back up your data and contact your computer manufacturer to restore the computer to factory settings.

Hope this helps. Let us know the results.

Thanks and Regards,
