Changing rating in Windows Media Player library doesn’t show up in Windows explorer.

1. retrieve additional information from the internet - overwrite al media information
2. rearrange music files using rip settings
3. rearrange music in rip music folder using rip music settings
4. maintain my star ratings as global ratings in files

Watch out

1 will overwrite all of your own edits

2-3 This rearrange the files, you might loose any correspondence with the original CD

1-3 None of them affect the rating

4 should do the job.

As Tim implicitly suggested, WMP wont store ratings in WAV

It might be possible that the Windows Media Player database is corrupted so the ratings for songs are not showing in Windows explorer.
You may clear the Windows Media Player database cache files which will automatically rebuild the database. For more information, follow this link.

You cannot view, add, or delete items in the library in Windows Media Player 11(Also holds good for Windows Media Player 12)

! WARNING  ! - Do NOT do what Debleena S suggests above unless you want to actually LOSE all the star ratings that were not showing up in explorer.

I did that and it rebuilds the cache alright. And your rating WILL match explorer, but they WON'T be the ones that were in Media Player before you blew out the cache.

Luckily I was able to restore the deleted cache files from the recycle bin and it restored my ratings (which took MONTHS of listening and rating).

Go to Options
UNcheck "Maintain my star ratings as global ratings in files"
Click Apply

Click OK

Go BACK into Options

CHECK "Maintain my star ratings as global ratings in files"

Click Apply

You will be prompted if you want to overwrite ratings on the files

Click Yes

This worked for me, explorer now matches the ratings I have in Media Player and I confirmed it saved the details to the file (which is what I wanted, b/c that way they work on other devices as universal ratings)

Also confirmed rating a song previously unrated DID update the file (and explorer) as well.
