I got my computer about a week ago. Things seemed to work fine the first start-up, and then I had to restart in order to install some updates. After the restart (which took somewhere around 4 hours) I found that several programs will not open, i.e. Internet
Explorer, Media Player, Norton Antivirus. I attempt to open them, the 'loading' icon appears next to the cursor, and then nothing happens. All of these programs came pre-installed, as this is a new computer. However, these programs do run in safe mode. Prior
to the restart, I had installed Network Magic 5.1 and attempted to install Webroot Antivirus. I have since uninstalled these programs, but the problem continues. I have made no other changes to the computer. I've also tried backing up the computer but this
has not worked either. I'm afraid I know very little about computers and have no idea what I should do. Any advice would be very welcome.

Use the manufacturer recovery process to take you 'back to factory' This will sort out whatever problems that you have presently.
After you have done this, go to 'Programs and Features' and completely remove Norton 'Anything'
Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials (free) as your front line security protection
Re Network Magic 5.1, do not install it. Cisco released version 5.5 and even this one is not compatible with Windows 7 (according to Cisco)
In future, always check for compatibility. If Windows 7 is not mentioned, assume that whatever you are looking at is NOT compatible..
