How do I turn off these very annoying hotkeys mapped to the F buttons. I want normal F buttons!

I play quite a few games on my surprisingly (to me) powerful i3 4 Gig HP Pvillion g6 laptop (W7 64 bit, integrated Graphics card :( )I am more than happy with it. HOWEVER! There is one thing that has finally pushed it to far just a minute ago and that is the STUPID pre mapped hot keys on the f buttons. WHY have F buttons that DONT WORK AS F BUTTONS?! It causes me much stress in the imaginary gaming world I inhabit frequently and we just can't have that. Rant over (not a real rant I promise! Just a little Catharsis) Please help oh ye enlightened internet folk!

EDIT: I should have clarified I mean the F# buttons but I have faith in your intelligence to guide you friend. Overcome my simple ignorance and bring to me the knowledge of the ancients! Can you do it soon? I wan't to play Far Cry 3 without a hitch

Seems that HP has made those keys active simply by pressing and holding them down (nowhere does it state how long that interval is).
BUT (and now comes the good news), they can be disabled in BIOS so that they function strictly as "F" keys (page 38):
"An action key performs an assigned function. The icon on each of the f1 through f4 keys and f6
through f12 keys illustrates the assigned function for that key.
To use an action key function, press and hold the key.
The action key feature is enabled at the factory. You can disable this feature in Setup Utility (BIOS).
See Using Setup Utility (BIOS) and System Diagnostics on page 68 for instructions on opening
Setup Utility (BIOS), and then follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen."

Then, after it's disabled in BIOS, they will only function as "special" keys as Mr. Clement stated, pressing the Fn key in combination with it:
"To activate the assigned function after disabling the action key feature, you must press the fn key in
combination with the appropriate action key."

Here's a link to the User Manual for further reference:

If you're still having a problem with it because of the proximity of the Fn key, then I believe you can disable it altogether by stopping HP Quick Launch in Task Manager. Test it out offline before gaming to make sure stopping it doesn't affect other keyboard functions that you may need.
Game on, my friend!!
