Code 43 error for device on USBdevice - USB Mouse stopped working

Running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspirion

USB wire optical mouse has been working without difficulties for last three weeks since we purchased it.

This morning device not working message appeared and the mouse stopped working.

The mouse works well on other systems (XP) as we checked to ensure it was not the mouse.

Uninstalled all the USB drivers, and unplugged any USB devices, restarted and Windows 7 which reinstalled USB drivers.  The driver installation reports successful installation on controllers and Root Hub however indicates a Device failed at the end.

Youe assistance would be appreciated.

Answer
Thanks for your help, the solution ended up being to rebuild the INFCACHE.1 file in C:\windows\system32\driverstore folder.  I renamed the INFCACHE.1 ffile to INFCACHE.1bak and then restarted the machine.  After it was booted up I connected the USB device and after a few minutes the INFCACHE.1 file is rebuilt automatically.  The ability to rename the file though required me to change the Owner and Permissions via the security tab by right clicking the INFCACHE.1 file and then going to Properties
