Chkdsk /f gave "cannot lock current drive" "windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected"

After having the error code 0xc000014 I followed a post from another user and got a friend to get an iso for Windows 10 and used the repair my computer option which I follow and it didn't work so I decided to try use the restet which it returned " the drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again". Then I followed another post which used the command prompt which I inserted chkdsk and it returned [the image] with "failed to transfer logged message to the event log with status 50" at the end. Then I used "chkdsk /f" which it returned " the type of file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive.  Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected. And now I'm here wondering what to do next? Thanks Reece.

Answer

Hi Reece,

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I appreciate you for providing the screenshot.

Using some additional switches with check disk may help in getting the issue resolved.

Perform the steps mentioned below and see if the error message disappears.

a: Press Windows key + X.

b: Then click Command prompt(Admin)

c: Now type the following command and hit enter:

chkdsk C: /f /r /x

Chkdsk disclaimer.

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive, then chkdsk tries to repair that sector. If any data is available then  that  data might be lost.

Do get back to us for any issues pertaining in the future. We will be happy to help.
