Help!!! Games that use UnityPlayer.dll crash constantly

Hello all! As you can tell by the title, I am having a very great deal of trouble with playing games that use Unity, and I specifically say UnityPlayer.dll because that's the faulty module that sometimes comes up in even viewer reports. Here is the most recent report I could find:

Faulting application name: BlushBlush.exe, version: 2018.4.26.44060, time stamp: 0x5f2d7182
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000000ff
Faulting process id: 0x28e8
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6afc992d7cadf
Faulting application path: E:\vidya\gaseous water\steamapps\common\BlushBlush\BlushBlush.exe
Faulting module path: unknown
Report Id: 97caa2f6-7e0f-41a5-a420-c74f376f8693
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

UnityPlayer.dll isn't in that one, but it has shown up in other reports and this error is only plaguing me when I play Unity games. However, sometimes they also cause my whole system to crash. The most common error code is IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, with the bugcheck code being either 0xc0000005 or  0x0000000a. I've also seen DCP_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT or KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. Here is the most current event viewer report for such an event:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0xfffff80380f62880, 0x00000000000000ff, 0x0000000000000062, 0xfffff80380f275c4). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 8bee35fb-5c9e-48c4-a1e5-76909ee812a7.

And here is a link to a google drive folder with the most recent MEMORY.DMP file:

I'm completely at my wits end. I've tried essentially everything stopping short of resetting windows, but I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions and would do all I can to assist.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you’re facing issues with launching games on your PC, and I certainly appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue.

We will certainly look into this for you.

For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below:

1.     Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently?

2.     Are you aware of any changes made to the PC prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?

3.     When exactly do you receive this error?

Refer the article Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

Let’s try a couple of troubleshooting steps and see if we can fix the issue.

Method 1: Re-register the DLL

Try re-registering the DLL file and see if that helps.

  1. Press Windows + S key together to open Search.
  2. Now type CMD and select Run as administrator.
  3. Accept the UAC prompts.
  4. Type in the following commands one by one and hit Enter:
    regsvr32.exe /u UnityPlayer.dll
    regsvr32.exe UnityPlayer.dll
  5. Restart the PC

Method 2: Run System File Checker and DISM scan

Try running System File Checker scan on your PC to see if there are any corrupted system files. Refer the article Using System File Checker in Windows 10

In addition, try booting the PC in Clean Boot and see if the games crash. Refer the article How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Performing a clean boot will start the computer with minimal set of drivers and programs, to determine whether a background program is causing the issue. Some of the Startup programs will not load after performing a clean boot on the computer. However, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after finishing the troubleshooting.

If the games doesn’t crash after performing Clean Boot, then please refer the section How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot to identify the root cause of the issue.

Note: Please refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in to normal mode after troubleshooting

Let us know if you need any further assistance, we will be glad to assist you.

Regards,

Prakhar Khare

Hello Prakhar! Thank you for your response. To answer your questions:

1.)I am on Windows 10 Home, versions  2004, OS build 19041.610.

2.) As far as I am aware, this has plagued me the entire time I've had my pc, so there are no changes I am aware of that would cause this.

3.) This error will occur at some random time I am running a game that uses unity, sometimes it'll crash after only 20 minutes, sometimes it can go for about an hour.

I tried re-registering the DLL, but when I hit enter on either command, I get an error box stating:

"The module UnityPlayer.dll failed to load.

Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.

The specified module could not be found."

I ran both the DISM tool and SFC, and they both found no integrity violations in my system files. A clean boot also failed to solve the issue.

Hi, do you have Citrix Workspace installed by any chance? I also have the same error for UnityPlayer.dll. Many users have reported uninstalling Citrix Workspace fixed the problem for them.

https://forum.unity.com/threads/unity-2018-2-7f1-windows-standalone-crash-on-first-run-unityplayer-dll-caused-an-access-violation.556585/

I don't have Citrix Workspace however, so the fix does not apply to me.

Unity's support ended on 2021 January 1. I read this somewhere.
It's easy to ride down a hill while it's hard to climb the hill back up.
Like that, it's easy to malfunction a computer while it's hard to fix it.

I got the same issue and wans't able to find a solution for about 4 month now!

Checked and changed the RAM, various clean installs of Windows on different harddrives (HDD, SSD and M2) but no luck.

Every other Game is running just fine (even Cyberpunk 2077)

Having this exact same problem! most games i have played up until now have never crashed. then I got a Quest 2 and wanted to play VR Chat on PC. Only for it to crash my PC and restart every time. the max amount of time I've been in-game was maybe 5mins at best before it crashes. I tried everything VR chat said to do if you crashed but nothing worked and Ive already re-installed the game 2-3 times. Ive reinstalled drivers. Ive went back and used old drivers thinking things weren't compatible with the new just yet. Ive ran everything as admin. I even turned off "system shutdown on critical error" that was located some where that i cant remember because i founded it on a "How to stop windows 10 from crashing" tutorial. STILL CRASHED!  Nothing worked. Then i tried a different vr game and the resole was the same. Ive been testing for these problems for almost a full month now and just found out about "Problem Reports"

Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH
Application Name:    VRChat.exe
Application Version:    2018.4.20.34440
Application Timestamp:    5e72fef7
Fault Module Name:    UnityPlayer.dll
Fault Module Version:    2018.4.20.34440

I tried swapping out the dll for a new one I found online (thinking it was faultily or something) but to no avale. Instead I just got a "Mono" error.  If anyone figgers this out please let me know!

Same issue here - on Windows 10 Home 20H2, OS build is 19042.631.

Also popping up while gaming at various times.. sometimes right away, sometimes an hour in..

I also tried reregistering the DLL and got the same error. FWIW, I'm on a clean install of windows - just wiped my partitions and rebooted everything yesterday.
