No virtual wifi adapter in network adapter settings in Windows 10

Original title: unable to use virtual wifi adapter

I have got my Hp laptop with windows 8.1 and then did the free upgrade to win 10 pro x64.

Back then with win 8.1, i could create a hotspot on my laptop, and share the ethernet connection, but now i'm getting this message in cmd "the group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation " when i try to manually start a hosted network.

There is no virtual wifi adapter in network adapter settings

So i tried reinstalling the latest wifi drivers that were available, but it was of no use.

In the device manager i have 3 wifi direct virtual adapters out of which two show an error of code 45 as below

The 3rd driver is ok and it reports that there is no problem in it. pic below

If it says that the device is working properly then why is the virtual wifi adapter not appearing in the adapter settings?

this clearly proves that something is wrong in windows 10 since everything was fine with windows 8.1.

Please provide a solution . thanks in advance

Hello Jaswant,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. We are glad to help you.

Please follow the below methods:

Method 1: Internet Connection Troubleshoot

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Internet connection. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your internet.

Refer these steps:

1.   Press “Windows key + X”, select Control panel

2.   Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons

3.   Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel

4.   Run the Internet Connection troubleshooter

If the issue persists, try this:

Method 2: I suggest you to update network drivers and check if that helps.

1.   Press “Windows + X” and select Device manger.

2.   Select Network Adapter and expand the driver icon.

3.   Right click on the driver icon and click on Update.

4.   Follow the onscreen instructions to update the driver.

Both the methods didn't help, I ran the troubleshooter as administrator but it did not show any problems.

I have the latest driver software for wifi adapter.

Also I went through the reference link you've posted,so I gave the netcfg -d command a try, this too didn't fix the issue.
