I am trying to control a Windows 10 PC from a Mac. I have installed Microsoft Remote Desktop on Mac OSX. I can successfully connect to the PC and control it from within my home network, but when I try to control it over the internet I receive the above error message (in the subject line). My network configuration is simple. I have a wireless router whose address is 10.0.0.1, and the ip address of the PC I am trying to control is 10.0.0.69. I have determined my public ip address and entered that in the "PC name" field of the Remote Desktop dialog.
I have followed directions to port forward port 3389 to ip address 10.0.0.69 in my router. Is this correct?
Also, I am confused about the need for a "gateway" in the setup of RDP on the mac. In the gateway setup, I specified that the Server name is 10.0.0.69. Is this correct? Should I need to have a gateway configured? If I leave Gateway unconfigured, I receive a different error, namely "Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify Remote Desktop is enabled...."
Can anyone help?
