Keyboard and mouse not working at login windows 10

Hi,

I appear to have a problem with the mouse and keyboard stopping working, was fine until an hour ago. Have tried:-

different keyboard and mouse

switching on a off again a few times

pressing shift does not activate the safe mode screen, bios etc

Can see shared files from a 2nd pc on the same network so I think the hard drives okay, just lost the use of the USB ports

Dell desktop.

Any help much appreciated.

J

A failed Windows Update is the likely cause of this problem.

Try these options:

Option 1: Perform a repair upgrade:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/wiki...

Option 2:

Power on and off your computer three times
On the third time, your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment
Click Advanced Options
Click Troubleshoot
Click Advanced Options

Click Command Prompt (Admin)

Confirm the drive letter for the Windows image. Usually D: –> dir d:

Run the following to view the installed packages which will also show a date of install.

Dism /Image:D:\ /Get-Packages

Find the package(s) that were just installed by date. Run the following command on the last installed package:

example: dism.exe /image:d:\ /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB4014329~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.0

Reboot.

Thanks for your reply, I cannot do option one as I have no way to interact with the system. Option 2 doesn't seem to work.

This has been caused by a recent update.
Method 1:

Windows Key + R

appwiz.cpl

View installed updates

Look for update KB4074588 (OS Build 16299.248)

Right Click it. Uninstall it. DO NOT REBOOT YET.

ms-settings:

Click OK

Click Windows Update

Scroll way down to the bottom

There are possibly 3 options

Change them all to the max number of days

365 days for top option

30 days for security updates option

Pause updates (slider bar to turn it on)

None of this is recommended by Microsoft for Security purposes

All of it is recommended by MILE Technologies (us) for functionality and business continuity.

Reboot

Windows Key + R

rstrui

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~16299.248.1.17

Press Enter (Return)
