Hi, Vanessa,

Thank you for your reply, however, the above method didn't work.

The Unimodem Audio Device is not found under Device manager after update to the new Build 10586 and no driver can be found or installed in such circumstances.

(Originally it was found and installed w/ Build 10240, see photo below.)
We think it is the the new Build 10586 is causing the problem and Dick Van Dyle's link also mentioned it back in 12/12/15. Is MSFT gonna fix it in the next Build or anytime soon?

Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting in Community, we appreciate the effort that you have made to shine light onto the issue.

As you have stated that the driver in question is not present in device manager,  I suspect that the update might have removed the driver form your computer.

To resolve this I would suggest that you visit the manufacturer's website, install and download the latest driver for the device and check if it works.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Venessa,

We are the MFG and as we stated that there is no unknow device nor device w/ question mark/exclamation mark in front of it. We are not able to install driver if it is not been detected by the system.

We also checked w/ LSI, chipset MFG that the driver works and Unimodem Audio Device is installed before update w/ Build 10240 as the pictures shown above. The issue happened after updating to Build 10586

There is other thread discussion this issue

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/win-10-ver-1511-breaks-voice-modems/5ad002d5-25b4-4d3f-ae5a-895a45addd51

It seems to be a known issue that after updating to Build 10586, the voice function of the modem is gone due to the Unimodem Audio Device is removed and no longer available.

Pls advise if there is any we could do to put back the Unimodem Audio Device.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting your response.

To provide an answer to your query, I would suggest that you log into the computers manufacturer website, key in your computers serial number and you will find the driver for the device. If the driver for Windows 10 is unavailable, I would suggest that you download the latest driver and install it in compatibility mode. To install in this mode follow the steps below

1. Download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.

2. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.

3. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select the operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.

4. Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Vanessa,

Thank you for your reply. I'm using Acer Aspire E2 and DELL Inspiron for testing.

There is no driver on computer MFG's website for the device since the modem is MFG by Hiro Inc. using LSI chipset.

We did as you recommend and install the driver in compatibility mode, however, the modem installed correctly but the voice function is still missing.

Allow me to explain the issue again.

1. Modem installed and voice function is working under Windows 10 Build 10240 (Unimodem Audio Device is installed under Sound, video and game controllers)

2. After update to Build 10586, the voice function is no longer working and the Unimodem Audio Device is removed under Sound, video and game controllers under Device Manager.

3. Same PC H/W, Same Modem and Same Modem Driver, nothing changed except update from Build 10240 to 10586

We've checked w/ chipset MFG, LSI and neither us, Hiro Inc. and LSI think it is the driver issue. If it works on Windows 10 Build 10240 but not on Build 10586, we both think it is Windows' causing the issue.

We could also provide video clip to duplicate the problem that the modem installed correctly as well as Unimodem Audio Device under Windows 10 Build 10240 but after update to Build 10586, the modem still installed and working but Unimodem Audio Device is missing and removed from Sound, video and game controller under Device Manager.

Pls let me know if you need any other information.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting your response.

We appreciate the time and effort that you have invested in to fix the issue. We apologize for the delayed response and the inconvenience caused.

As you have stated that the Unimodem Audio Device is missing, I would suggest that you install the driver for this device from the manufacturer's website and check if it helps. This is so because you cannot find the driver itself in Device Manager.

If you are unsuccessful to find or install the driver, I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer of the device for further clarification.

Hope this information helps

Hi, Vanessa,

Thank you for following up on this and we, Hiro Inc. are the MFG of modem and the chipset MFG, LSI didn't have the driver of Unimodem Audio Device.

The device driver MFG is Microsoft, see attached.

The Unimodem Audio Device is installed properly under Windows 10 Build 10240, however, once upgrade to Build 10586, the Unimodme Audio Device is removed and the computer lose its voice function.

Could you let us know where to download the driver from Microsoft's website of this Unimodem Audio Device?

Can you you or MSFT provide us the driver of Unimodem Audio Device that we could install under Windows 10 Build 10586 and has the Unimodem Audio Device put back under Device Manager?

Exactly what is it that Microsoft support engineers don't  understand about the above  problem  with the unimodem missing from the latest  November windows 10 update. I have the same problem and I must say, that the problem could not have been explained better. My question is, will Microsoft fix this problem or not, instead of  giving the same useless suggestions
