Deleting "Camera Roll" and "Saved Pictures" libraries

Hi Kylian,

All photos and videos you take with the Camera app are saved to your camera roll. You'll find the Camera roll folder in the Pictures folder on your PC.

If you delete the Camera Roll and Saved Pictures folders, they will be recreated by design.

I don't mind the folders being in pictures I just hate and dislike how they keep popping in libraries. i use libraries a lot. They are use less and unasthethic in there. No matter how many times I delete them they resurrect like an evil demon spawn.

There are tons of people also having this problem

Copy & Paste everything between the dotted lines into Notepad & save as HideLibraries.reg.  Then you can right-click & Merge to hide Camera Roll & Saved Pictures Libraries.

From what people are saying you're a miracle worker! I want to try your registry script but I'm only moderately tech-savvy so I have a few questions first.

Here's my sitch:

- Like other users, I don't mind the folders but I despise the libraries

- I want to delete the Photos app

- I want to keep the Camera app

- I've already used Winaero Tweaker to activate Windows Photo Viewer (instead of using Photos)

My concerns:

- If I use your script, will it cause problems with deleting Photos, or with using Camera

- Assuming it doesn't, can I delete Photos without it affecting Windows Photo Viewer

I'm basically concerned with what order to do things and what affects what. But taking a closer look at your script, it looks like it's relegated to hiding folders in Explorer, not really affecting the apps at all. Is that right? So, can I use your script, then delete Photos, still use Windows Photo Viewer to view my pics, and still use Camera which will save the pics it takes to the folders as usual even though the libraries are hidden?

I have a gut feeling that deleting Photos first before running your script would be best, but maybe (probably) I'm overthinking this. The real concern is whether deleting Photos, at all, would impair Windows Photo Viewer. I know that's off-topic from your script, but if you know the answer, and could help me out with my other questions, that would be fantastic.

All the reg file does is hide the Camera Roll & Saved Pictures Libraries from the Libraries folder that is rooted in the Navigation Pane.  If you look under:

%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries

You see that the Libraries still exist, so no functionality should be affected.

Not an expert on the Photos app.  If you can remove it, though I would recommend just setting the defaults you want & ignoring it, I don't think it would affect Photo Viewer.  Photo Viewer is powered by a .dll ---- Photos app is a modern app --- I doubt they share any code.

Thanks Keith! It worked. I'm extremely clutter-averse and I wanted to get rid of those annoying libraries and the Photos app which re-organizes all your photos "for your convenience" and with a stray tap of the trackpad might upload or share them with God knows where.

For those out there who are similar, removing the Photos app is easy with a quick PowerShell command, and you can activate the good ol' Windows Photo Viewer with Winaero Tweaker, which is an excellent, comprehensive, easy-to-use program that allows you to modify a great number of features in Windows 10. Get it now while it's still free.

And after running Keith's script and uninstalling Photos, there were no conflicts - Camera and Windows Photo Viewer worked just fine.
