Can't delete Steam game shortcuts

Hi

I recently got a new PC and was getting it set up okay.I found a way to restore the Games folder on for Windows 10(using the shell:games) command in Run.

I made copied and my games executables,and then pasted the shortcuts in my newly created Games folder.Now,i did the same for some steam games and that seemed to work.

But then when i asked Steam create a desktop shortcut for a game,and placed it in my Games folder i get a shorcut with no image attached to it.And i can't right click on it to get any options.And more importantly i can't delete this shorcut from my Games folder.

I looked into shell:appsfolder,but i can't see the Steam dektop shortcut(3rd paragraph)there.

Does anyone know how i can delete this Steam desktop shortcut form my Games folder?.

Hi Sudsy,

When files or folders cannot be deleted anymore, it means that it is still associated with your computer and bound to other apps.

To resolve this, we would like to recommend using the Unlocker app that can be downloaded from the Internet. Look for the safe ones and install this. Once installed, right-click the shortcut icon and use the Unlocker > Delete.

Hi Johann

I tried running the Unlocker app,but my non working Steam desktop shortcut didn't come up in the list.

Any suggestions on what to try next?.

In what exactly do you want to do with your games? We would like to know why did you install it on the first place?

If you don't want the presence of this program or you are not using it anymore, you can remove it on your computer permanently by doing the formal way. Removing it also give you more storage space. To address your concerns with this program, we’d like to ask you a few questions:

  • Which version or build of Windows device are you using? To know, press Windows + R to open the Run window. Type winver and press Enter. A new window will open showing the version and build number of your Windows device.
  • Do you have other users that are using your computer?
  • How do you uninstall a program?
  • What are the programs do you want to uninstall?
  • Can you check the Control Panel if this program was formally installed on your computer?
  • What were the recent changes made on your end before you noticed that it was installed on your computer?

Hi Johann

I installed my game correctly,but it was the Steam desktop shortcut's which didn't want to work.My game does work fine,it the Steam desktop shortcut's which doesn't function.

My version of Windows is 10,version 1709(OS build 16299.248)

I'm the only user on my PC.

I don't want to uninstall any of my programs that are working fine,i want to delete the Steam desktop shortcut's that don't work in my Game folder.

At this time, we recommend using the tool called Disk Cleanup. This maintains and clears your temporary files that are not being used anymore.

Visit this link: Disk cleanup in Windows 10 to know how to execute this tool. Then, select the set of files that you want to get rid off from your computer.

I tried the disk cleanup tool,but this didn't get rid of the non working Steam desktop shortcuts.

At this time, you will need to contact Steam support to know how to delete the desktop shortcuts of their games. It is isolated on their end, but not on other shortcut programs on your computer.
