How to export mail out of windows 10 mail app

I recently wiped off a computer and took a backup of the system before I wiped it. I am trying to pull the mail out of the windows 10 mail app storage location. I am not having any luck. Please help if you are able to.

Hello Dylan,

With regard to your concern in exporting emails from the Windows 10 Mail app, the option to export emails is not yet available. As a workaround, you may try to make a copy of the emails before the Mail app sync online mail account deletes the emails. You may refer to the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the following location: C:\Users\Username\Appdata\Local\packages\microsoft.Windowscommunicationsapps\Localstate\Indexed\Livecomm\any folder name\any folder name\mail (C:\ being the drive where Windows is installed).
  2. The app data folder in the above said location is a hidden folder. If you are unable to view, change the view options to Show hidden files and folders and check.
  3. You will see many folders for each folder in the mail folder (e.g. Inbox, Sent, Drafts), open these folders and locate the folders that contains the emails.
  4. Copy and paste the email files in the desired location. You will be able to open these files using any email applications.

Hi Stephanie,

Followed the guide. However it seem that the following folder "Indexed" could not be found. Are there other alternatives in backing / exporting the emails from windows 10 mail app ?

Thank you,

Regards

Hello,

The Indexed folder that you are looking for is only available in Windows 8 and 8.1. The option to back up the emails from the Windows 10 Mail app is by opening them one by one. To do this, you may follow the steps below:

1. Open the Mail application on your Windows 10 computer.

2. Select the email that you want to save, click the (three dots) icon.

3. Click Save As and select the folder location on where you want to save the file, and then click the Save button.

4. Once you’re done, you may check if you’re able to save your emails on your PC properly.

Keep us updated about your concern for additional assistance.

OMG so we must play with saving emails one by one?

Can't Bill create a better function to save them all?
