Windows 10 October Update - FLAC metadata cut off

Hi,

I have recently updated my computer to the October Update. However, I have noticed that after ripping some of my discs to FLAC, some of the metadata gets cut off (e.g. "American Beauty/American Psycho" gets cut off as "American Beauty/American P" instead). This did not happen while I had the April 2018 update, and editing the metadata does not work as it only cuts the metadata again.

Shown below are two albums I ripped into FLAC that have the issue. I hope the issue gets fixed soon.

Thanks.

Hi Lumia. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

You can roll back Version 1809 in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool downloaded from here: https://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent...

What app do you use to compress FLAC? I would Reset it in Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > App name > Advanced Settings.

If necessary uninstall the app and reinstall from a fresh download. Check the app Support if there is a known issue with patch issued or expected.

If you want to report this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. They will not even see it here. This is a tech forums staffed mostly by volunteers trying to help others with your problems.

If you want to post back a Share link from your Feedback here others who see this thread can vote it up and add to it. I will also track the issue for you.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi,

It has been more than 10 days since I have updated to 1809, so the Windows.old folder is not available any longer.

I have used Exact Audio Copy to extract the audio files from the Audio CDs that I own. I have copied the files to a thumbdrive and stuck it in another PC running 1903 and the metadata was correct.

I'll wait until a fix comes out. There's nothing much I can do.

Apparently this is supposed to be fixed now according to Microsoft!

https://www.neowin.net/news/here039s-what039s-fixed-improved-and-still-broken-in-windows-10-build-18272

It was an issue before the October 2018 update was pulled.

It has not yet been fixed, still metadata for FLAC cut's off on Windows 10 1809 Build 17763.168 & Build 17763.194, also some audio tracks will start at the middle while playing with windows media player or grove music

If using third-party software / apps eg foobar2000 metadata is seen and audio tracks work normally

Microsoft fix this issues

A few updates this week.  Hoping one of them would have fixed the issue.  Unfortunately it hasn't.  Maybe it's low down on Microsoft's "to fix list" :(

I just noticed the same bug. Yes, it a bug, B-U-G. Deny the issue is completely unprofessional as is completely unprofessional ignore the issue and spend time with futile GUI micro-adjustments that only produce an harlequin GUI in the entire OS because the company mantra is that stupid "insider" thing.

I am also encountering the issues with not only the metadata fields being truncated but also playback starting well into the file.

The total time is shown correctly, but the playback start is shown as 0:00, even though playback is starting well into the file.  Thus, for example, for a FLAC file with a length of 4:30, playback might end around 3:20.  Additionally, for some shorter FLAC files, they won't even be played.  It will show the truncated metadata for a few seconds and then advance to the next file in the playlist.

I have confirmed this issue on Windows 10 Pro 1809 and Windows 10 LTSC 2019.
