Error code 0x8500201c trying to access email through Windows 10 mail app

Every time I try to access one of my outlook.com email addresses I get error code 0x8500201c.

It tells me to look this up online but I've not been able to easily find anything about it online nor on here with a search.

I'm able to access it (albeit slowly) using the Windows 10 mobile mail app, and as normal using outlook.com itself.

The Windows 10 app will add the account, but then just throws up a message saying "Something went wrong. We can't sync at the moment". Which doesn't really help.

Any advice/help please?

Hi Kalpana,

Thank you for the ideas for fixing this issue.  I have the same problem and I tried the trouble shooter and updates without luck.  I can't figure out how to remove and re-add the account.  Is there a tutorial for this?

Thanks, Joel

Hi,

Thank you for the response and keeping the status updated.

I suggest you to uninstall Mail app in Windows 10. Please follow the below steps:

1. Type Power in Start Search.

2. Right click PowerShell and choose Run as administrator and run the command

Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online

To reinstall that can be done via the Windows store.

Hope this information is helpful.

Thank you.

Hello,

Same as Helen. I also tried to uninstall the application "Mail and Calendar" from System-Applications and characteristics, but the system doesn't allow to do so.

Any solution? It only happens to me on one computer and when I use the application Mail and Calendar in Windows 10.

Thanks and regards,

Jordi

Got that same annoying problem.

Everything was going fine with the two Hotmail accounts I've been having for years being added to the Mail app when I installed Win10.

As soon as I added one of these accounts to Outlook, I can't refresh it now. Stuck on a one-month-old date. Only works properly with Outlook now. Bummer.

At the same time, I was doing this "probation period" for added security process with the account too, maybe it's related ? (another fussy thing to sort out too, if you want my opinion)

I've been checking the web for a solution for more than a month now and noticed posts from 2014 regarding this code number issue: hey-ho Microsoft !? where are you !!!???????

Exact same problem.  One of my outlook.com reacts this way, but another, and my gmail accounts all sync properly.  The outlook.com account that is stuck on a date a couple of months ago (probably when I "upgraded" to Windows 10), works fine in the Outlook app which is part of Office 365.

I have this problem on three computers trying to access a specific email account.  In all three cases, it is the second Hotmail/outlook account trying to be accessed in Win10 Mail.  The first account entered in Win10 Mail is different on all three computers.  None of the suggestions provided have done anything on all three computers.  I still get the error.  The only thing I haven't tried is deleting all the accounts in Mail and starting over because I'm afraid the error will show up with the other accounts.  What's next?
