My Templates path in Excel 2010 needs changing.

- Close Excel
- Open Word
- Go to the file menu
- Click Options
- Click Advanced
- Scroll down to the section General
  (or is it named Common? I'm not sure, I have a german word only.)
- Click the button File Locations
- Click the Template entry
- Click the Change button
- Search and click on the folder you like
- Click Ok, Ok, Ok until every window is closed

If you open Excel and click 'My Templates" button you should see the templates in your folder.

Many thanks for the solution. I failed with Excel Expert 2010 exam 77-888 and I want to retake the exam. I come across this issue while I am practicing.  Now I am very clear.  Once again thanks.

Hi, in Office 2010 Excel I'm trying to point the 'My Templates' folder to a location on a local server. How do I do this? Thanks in advance.

This is an imbecile implementation from Microsoft. 

It has been like this always, and there is no tools available to solve the problem if you do not have Word installed on your PC.

I, Me, Myself have Office 2010 as a working platform, but I also have Excel 2013 installed for test purposes, but I do not have Word 2013 installed, so I cannot change this setting by any available tools in Microsoft Office.

The solution is:

Open Registry Editor (Start -> RegEdit)

Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Locate your Office version (14.0, 15.0 or whatever it might be)

Open Common

Open General

You will find the keys SharedTemplates and UserTemplates in the right panel.

Doubleclick to Edit and satisfy your needs.

Close RegEdit and restart Excel.

that's not correct.

I am running W10 and went back to office 2010 (2016 is ****). This way to save an excel template does not allow the user to change any details on said excel template and as such at each time a new excel sheet is required it reverts backs to cell alignment that is not what most users (I suggest) like.  The cells alignment for example are all bottom/right and not centred!!!

How do we change all setting so each excel opens in set template format please??
