using a 360 controller on windows 8 (wired controller)

ok!

  I downloaded the windows 7 software in 64 bit so I could use my controller on my windows 8. Windows 8 came with this pc.

One ambassador said I needed to run the software in compatibility mode. I right clicked on properties and I could not find compatibility mode. The ambassador left the chat. I then talked to a Xbox support person. That person said I needed to call the hotline so Microsoft could check my OS. However, the hotline did not work for me. When I would repeat my answers the hotline kept repeating itself.

 

I also used START, RUN, and typed in joy.cpl. However, my controller was not listed. When I push on my Xbox 360 controller it just constantly flashes as if trying to find the xbox 360 console.

oh yes I even looked for the controller in device manager it comes up at xbox 360 peripherals, not xbox 360 controller. I am not sure what that means

Try installing the drivers for the XBox controller in "windows 7 compatibility mode"

www.microsoft.com/.../downloads

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

a) Download the controller drivers from the above link.

b) Right-click on the driver and click on ‘properties’.

c) Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 7 operating system from the drop down.

d) Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

I 'm using a wired Gamestop Xbox 360 controller and I got mine to work using these steps. Good luck.

If you already have the software installed, go to programs and features and uninstall Microsoft XBOX 360 Accessories 1.2.

1) Download the drivers from www.microsoft.com/.../download.aspx

2) Choose Gaming > Xbox 360 Controller for Windows > Windows 7 64 bit > English. Don’t run the drivers.  Save them to a folder. (Or Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows depending on your controller)

3) Right click the Xbox360_64Eng file in the folder you downloaded to and click "create shortcut"

4) Right click the shortcut you created.  Select properties.

5) On the compatibility tab in properties, click "Run this program in compatibility mode" Choose Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1 as the compatibility mode. Apply setting and click ok.

6) Right Click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator"

7) With your controller plugged in go to Device Manager.  You should see Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class. It located under Mice and other pointing if you do, you have arrived. If you don't, try this.

Continue only if you don’t see Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class in Device Manager

8) Right click the unknown device that shows a problem.

9) Update Driver Software > Browse My computer for Driver Software > Let Me Pick from a List of Drivers

10) Choose Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class > XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows

Ignore the warning.

Should work now.
