You can use one plugged into a USB port, but you'll only be able to use up to 16 gb.

The above applies to ANY unofficial MS hdd for the console. If you decide to use an unofficial hdd for your console you accept the responsibility when your console is banned from XBL.
As stated in your post about 'chipping' the vast majority of this community does not tolerate modifications of any kind, to the console or to the games.
