Switch a gamertag to another Microsoft account

I followed this help article to the letter http://support.xbox.com/en-US/billing-and-subscriptions/account-management/switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account and I am trying to execute what is Step 4 on that page, and I keep getting code 80154013. I called support and Katherine told me that I would have to wait 30 days, even though that support page pretty clearly spells out that you only have to wait 30 days if you want to do a complete rotation of 2 tags. I just want to have 1 tag, 1 Microsoft account, so I shouldn't need to wait.

It is weird, because I can still sign into xbox.com with my Microsoft account 1, and Microsoft account 3, and they will both display the same gamertag in the upper right. When I try to open 'My Account' while logged into the Microsoft account 1, it gives me an error. I also can not log into my Xbox360 with Microsoft account 1, so maybe the transfer didn't go through completely?

I know if you just created the Windows account you will have to wait 30 days. I had the same issues on a family members account. It will also give you an error if the date of birth is not the same on both accounts.

It appears that you need to wait 30 days after you make a change to either a gamertag or a Microsoft Account associated with a gamertag. I was told this on the phone and on an online chat. So when you transfer a gamertag A from Microsoft Account 1 to 3, that 30 day 'black lists' Microsoft Account 1, so step 4 on the support article needs a 30 day wait, and the full scenario they play out would actually be a 60 day wait total. Hope this can serve as solution to someone else who has been mislead by the support article.

From experience, it can work immediately to requiring 30 days if you just made the other email account, so it really could go either way. I've played around with account creation/gamertag swaps and it tends to allow you to change it right away if the new email is a Hotmail/Live account. This may have changed when they implemented the newer security stuff.
