I tried to recover my xbox 360 gamertag today and then this happened

 

"Update Required"

"A system update is available from Xbox Live. If you decline, you'll be signed out of Xbox LIVE. For more info, visit www.xbox.com/update

The update reaches the ... and then this happens

Can't download the update. To test connection, open System Settings and select Network Settings, Test Xbox LIVE Connection

If the problem persists, go to www.xbox.com/support

Status Code:

351F 0000 0080 0300 D000 0185

That error code refers to a faulty internal storage. From our guide on Troubleshooting System Update errors: 

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-D000-0185

A storage device (memory unit or hard drive) was not found during the software update. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your console.
  2. Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives, or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.
  3. Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.
  4. Turn on the console
  5. Try updating the console again.

A storage device (memory unit or hard drive) was not found during the software update. Follow these steps:

Reboot your console with the disc that prompted for an update. If that fails, try updating your console software by copying the update to a USB flash drive or CD.

This status is the death of me. I CANNOT get it fixed. even tried Tech Support. They want me to send it in and pay $99.00 to get it fixed....
