Thing I would take note of is that there are two models with same name with some really important differences in capabilities. There is the standard model at the $125 that only connects through the analog stereo and won't be able to simulate surround sound. It also runs on the 2.4Ghz wireless band which could give you a lot of interference from other sources like Phones, Wifi, and Microwaves. The better 5.1 model supports Dolby Digital and connects up to the 360 through an optical cable and will simulate surround sound based off of Dolby 5.1. It also use the higher and less congested 5.8Ghz band that should keep interference lower. The cost is more but the features on the 5.1 should make it far superior.

I would wait and save for the better model or check out the offerings of Astro, Turtle Beach, and Tritton. Hope that helps.

I think it really depends on what and how you play. A home theatre kit is great for cinematic experiences however a Turtle Beach surround sound headset such as the X41 might be a better option if you want clarity to be competitive online (so you can hear opponents foot steps for example). So why and for what purpose do you want a new sound set up? Knowing this will help us find the best solution for you.

A person could get decent 5.1 SS for 1700
