So my problem is when I try to connect to XBL through an ethernet cable and select Wired Network, I receieve a window that says:

" To use a wired Internet connection, make sure an Ethernet cable is connected to both your console and your router or modem. "

I have tried muliple ethernet cables and it's still the same message. I have tried going through my router first obviously and nothing, and then connecting directly to my modem and it's still the same problem, however wireless works fine.

If anyone could help I'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

Based on what you have tested so far I would say it sounds like your Ethernet port is faulty on the Xbox, have you experienced any storms lately that could have affected it?

The power did shutoff about a week ago, I can't remember if it was because of a storm or not because I was sleeping, but the xbox wasn't on at that time, and there was no cable in the ethernet slot. The xbox's PSU is also connected to a surge protector.

I forgot to mention this is also the slim version.

Is there also supposed to be some kind of small light coming from the ethernet port on the xbox? Because I don't see one at all.

You may want to try the console plugged directly into the wall rather than the surge protector, but I'm inclined to agree with Shad0wman and say that port is faulty, and likely needs to be repaired.

Agreed, the port on the xbox may be the cause, possibly a power issue as previously suggested, however if the surge protector failed to do what it was supposed too, it may have damaged some internal components.

Because your not seeing the "blinky-blinky" coming out of the ethernet port, It really sounds like a damaged port.

Thank you all for your feedback. I contacted customer support and they also think the issue is a damaged NIC.

It's unfortunate because I purchased this console in Feb. of this year, and to my recollection, I never remember using a wired connection until today when I tried to configure it. Support did suggest I try the console at a friend's house which I am going to do tonight, and if that is still a no-go to just send it in for repair, which shouldn't be to difficult he said, it's a very easy replacement.

Again thank you all, wish me the best of luck. I like to stay optimistic but I doubt it will work since the rest of my network is fine.
