Can't change my gamertag to the desired name

Hi. I am trying to change my gamertag from the current one (which was randomly generated) to a different one. The name is not in use, and does not violate any restrictions, yet when I try and change it I receive a "not available" message. I have not used my free change. Any suggestions?

if it says its not available then it isn't

when you do a search you must do it on all live services zune games for windows live and xbox live

your best bet keep trying

Chances are it's either in use elsewhere on LIVE (Zune, GFWL etc) or someone is using the name with spacing eg if someone wanted to use the name Vernier Slake they wouldn't be able too because of me using it.
