How can I help speed up my sometimes-slow tablet? (need any Reply to mark as Answer!)

I have been fighting a few issues on my tablet pc with help on this site and you can see them in my questions - especially the 10 page long one about End Nows.

But that has been resolved with some awesome help from 4 of you on my Question 12 END NOWS at every Log Off or Restart and I think that I helped it a bit by maximizing my RAM to 1.5GB - the most that is availble for this Motion Computing LE1600 tablet at http://www.motioncomputing.com/support/driver_download.asp. I even did a clean install recently with help and reinstalled all of my programs and updated all of them and my drivers and mfg software. I immediately installed and activated Security Essentials and I do very little on the internet and only go to Facebook, this site, my bank, Tech Republic and a radio station. But I wanted to ask this new question here since it seems like a slightly different deal but it might be somewhat related.

How can I assure that the hardward in this tablet is all working properly and find out what causes it to shut down and start up too slowly? Even though my tablet seems to now be operating better than I can remember even back to when it was brand new 5 or 6 years ago, there must still be some issue that seems pretty intermittent. Sometimes, when I do a Restart, after it goes to the Windows XP screen saying Saving your settings, it will just sit there for 10 or 20 minutes. After a while I give up and force a shutdown with the tablet's power switch. But at other times, my tablet will shut down or restart quite decently, if not a little too slowly. But sometimes it will shut down just fine on its own!

So what can I do? I don't really want to send it to the support staff at Motion Computing and hope that they can figure this out. So can anyone out there help me dig into this issue which I know nothing about. I am decently motivated and I think that I am sufficiently talented and slightly knowledgable about the technical aspects that would be needed. I don't really have any "tech" friends or associates that I can ask or want to ask for help on this.

Answer
It has been reported from a reliable source that the Yahoo! Messenger Weather Plug-in can cause performance issues - especially during log off, shutdown and restart.

Temporarily disable Yahoo! Messenger and then check your performance and you will know if that is it.
