Windows 7 Wont install/Upgrade - c000021a fatal system error

original title: Windows 7 Wont install/Upgrade

Hey everyone,

I am having a horrible time trying to get windows 7 back on my computer, before I explain the problem here are my comp specs:

HP p6045uk
WD Caviar Green 1tb HD
Ati Radeon 4350 HD
Motherboard: Asus IPIBL-LB / Benicia-GL8E
6 GB Ram
Windows Vista 64 Premium - Pre-installed.
Intel Core Quad 2.33

Now, in february It was a normal evening, chatting on skype and watching vids on youtube. My mate posted me a link to another Video, clicked it and halfway through got a Blue Screen Which said:
stop: c000021a fatal system error
of 0x00000000000 (0c0000001 0x00100628)

It worked fine in safemode, so I went on and backed up all my files onto an external. I decided to then wipe the HD and do a fresh install.

Now each time I wipe the HD with Diskpart and custom install Windows 7 it would give me: Windows setup could not configure windows on this computers hardware.
Each time it hit the final stages of the install.

I downloaded a bios update and downloaded the file from here that is meant to fix the blue screen put it on a usb and still no joy.

I have changed the HD from Raid to IDE and AHCI-- or whatever its called and nothing. Each time I did a fresh install.

I can install Vista fine, but sometimes it also gives me a blue screen when updating. It also gave me a bluescreen after installing an bios update from HP's website, installed drivers for my graphics card and when I installed all of microsofts updates to SP2.

Once updated, I did install and use the Windows 7 upgrade advisor and it says everything was fine, so i upgraded and then it would do the same as before. "Windows setup could not configure windows on this computers hardware. " so I turned it off frustrated, and left it a few weeks. Turned it back on and it proceed to loop to the install with this message: "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error"

I am going to just throw my computer out of the window, I paid for windows 7 so I didn't have to use Vista. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.

Answer

1)      On the same error screen press SHIFT+F10 and it will open up a black Window. (a command prompt window)

2)       In  the black windows type the word "regedit"(without the inverted commas and hit enter. That will open the registry editor.

        In the Registry Editor..

                Browse to....

HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion, and after highliting childcompletion,on the right hand side check for setup.exe. if the value is 1 change it to 3.(by double clicking on setup.exe and changing the value shown in the box).

Then close the registry editor and then also close the black window.

Then click on OK for the error and the computer will restart and the installation may complete.  just try it and let me know if it worked.
