Windows 7 - Windows Fax and Scan - The media is write protected

Up until a couple of weeks ago I was able to send faxes with Windows Fax and Scan using my internal US Robotics Fax Modem.  Now I am receiving this error for faxes sent to the prior working contacts:

  • The message could not be sent. The media is write protected.

Wherever I search using Google, all the requests for support regarding this issue seem to refer to Vista as opposed to Windows 7.  Those resolutions all suggest editing the registry to correct the eror; however, Windows 7 registry does not have the same paths.

Hi,

Follow these steps and check if it helps:

1. Go to start and type in windows fax and scan and press enter.

2. In Windows Fax & Scan go to the Fax view (View menu > Go to > Fax View).

3. In the Tools menu go to Fax Accounts.

4. Select your account and click Remove.

5. Now click Add and select Connect to a fax modem.

6. Leave the default name and click Next.

7. Choose an option how to handle incoming faxes and then click ok.
