Windows 10 File system errors

After a successful Windows 10 install and a happy week and a half, I have multiple problems today, 8/11/2015.

I have lost all taskbar functionality, many desktop icons give a File system error (-2018374635), and sound seems to be not working. There may be other issues that I have not yet found. Has anyone else had this issue or have a fix?

John

    1. Did you made any system changes prior to this issue?

Kindly follow the below given methods and check if issue is resolved.

Method 1:

This issue may occur due to some system file corruption. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow the below given steps:

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

  • In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
    1. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    2. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

  • Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

Thanks for the superb suggestions!

In this case though, I think it may have been a nasty virus that may have taken over some of my desktop. I was able to make a Win 10 USB drive that allowed me to repair/reset to my installation date state. All seems well at the moment. I haven't noticed anything lost or missing so far, but will be doing some more testing soon.

Thanks, I will keep your suggestions in hand for future problems.

I have the same problem but cannot use the combination of pressing the Windows key and X together; meaning nothing happens when I do it.

When I put the mouse on the Windows icon, it goes into the blue revolving circle.

I have the same issues with trying to open files on the desktop (file system error).

Do this mean I probably have a virus issue?  Dell wants to charge $180 for a 1-yr warranty to fix.
