Viewing RAW files thumbnail files in W10

I just upgraded from Windows 7 Pro where RAW images were visible as thumbnails in Windows Photo Viewer and other viewers.

Since the upgrade I only see tiles  and not thumbnails........

How do I fix this as I had the same problem about a month ago and had to buy some software to fix it then.

My files are Canon CR2 RAW files from 2 cameras. an EOS 60D and a PowerShot SX60 HX.

Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

I will be glad to help you with the issue you have with the computer. I understand the frustration when things don't work the way it should.

There is no option to view as thumbnails in Windows 10. The option had been removed in Windows 10, however we have an option to view the Photos as large and Extra Large items. To do this jus right click on the desktop and Click on View and choose the required option.

Hope this information is helpful.

Thank you.

I am sorry but I don't think you understand the problem I have highlighted.

I am a semi pro photographer and I take images as RAW files. These files are Canon CR2 files and up until changing to Windows 10 I have been able to see thumbnails of the actual images in Windows Photo Viewer and Windows Explorer.

This is no longer the case with Windows 10 and to put it mildly, is very annoying. I am not now able to review RAW images in either of the above and when working through 3-400 images this is impossible.

I cannot imagine that I am the only person in the whole world of Windows that has this problem and so I would be grateful for a solution - and quickly please...............

I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 and I cannot believe the thumbnail preview has been removed completely in Windows 10.  I too need it back as I use it all the time.  It would be ludicrous to expect us to open every single image to find the one we are looking for.  Please bring back thumbnail preview!

I was able to view some major RAW formats after I downloaded the Codec from Adobe.

https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5495

They says it's for DNG files but when I restarted my machine, the CR2 files were also viewable as large icons/thumbnails in file explorer.

I can't view the CR2 format thumbnails in large nor in extra large views.  I think Microsoft is willing for photographers to migrate to Apple since there appears to be no effort by Microsoft to support professional image formats.

Nope.  I don't know what type of stick Microsoft has up their ****.  Mac does it automatically, but Windows requires a third party app to get it done.  Sucks.

This is a completely brainless reply. It is quite clear that the writer does not have command of English as a first language, or has extremely poor understanding of semantics. This advice is meaningless because it returns the inquirer to his question.... by stating the blindingly obvious, which is the cause of the problem. No thumb views, just tiles...

Good day,

This is useless reply unfortunately :-( The problem is not about thumbnails being replaced by large or extra large icons.

The problem is that it is not possible to see in Windows Explorer little pictures instead of large or extra large icons.

This is very annoying for photographs taking RAW pictures.

Best regards
