Windows 10 Media Creation Tool Error 0x80070002-0x20016.

All I want to do is save the Windows 10 installation media to my external HDD; I downloaded the media tool, opened the file and I get the message, "Something Happened" with a code 0x80070002-0x20016. Anyone know what this means? I tried both versions, 32bit and 64bit but I get the same results. I don't know If I did something wrong or if this is Microsoft's problem, please help.

If this matters any, I'm still running Windows 7....

Hi all!

I've found the following solution. It involves some registry editing, but it worked for me and reportedly for several other people:

  1. Click on Start, search for regedit.
  2. With regedit open, proceed to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade
  3. Right click on the right side window and go to New -> DWORD (32-bit) value
  4. Rename the new value to "AllowOSUpgrade" without the " quotations and make sure it is exactly the same as it is case sensitive.
  5. Double click on the newly created value AllowOSUpgrade and change the value to 1 with hexidecimal base.
  6. Close regedit and run Windows Update again. Windows 10 should pop up and you can then download it.

Hope it helps :)
