What is the complete error message?
You may face this issue if drivers is corrupted or if sound card is not connected properly. Follow these methods and check if it helps:
Method 1: Try installing the drivers from Windows Update and check refer this article:

Method 2: Uninstall the drivers from device manager and let Windows install default drivers and then check if audio works.
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
