Transferring my full Skype chat history to my Android phone

I've just got a new smartphone, and have installed the Skype app for Android.

I've had Skype on my PC for many years, and have built up a long conversation history.

I realise that only the recent conversation posts are stored online by Skype, and the Android app therefore only shows the most recent ones, many of my contacts are just showing "no recent conversations".

I would like to be able to access all my conversations on my phone, so how can I transfer the data file containing them from my PC to my phone?

I realise that the history is stored in the "main.db" file on my computer, and I have transferred this to other computers to maintain my full Skype history there, but I can't see where to transfer the file to on my phone so I can see my full history there as well.

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks, Dave.

Hi,

Transferring of Main.db file to your smartphone will not work. The last 30 days of your Skype conversations is saved on the cloud server for you to access it across all supported platforms.

I regret to inform you that there’s no way to transfer your old conversations to your smartphone.

Thanks Noevir, I was rather afraid that would be the case!

A great shame, because having access to their full chat history I'm sure could be very important for some people.

Is the same true of the Windows 10 Skype app?

I use the desktop version on Windows 10, despite the endless nags to use the app version, and one of the things that puts me off using the app version is that again my full chat history isn't there.

Can the main.db history file from the desktop version be used in the Windows 10 app version of Skype, and if so which folder should I transfer it to?

Thanks again. Cheers, Dave.

I know how important this for you. However, there’s no way to transfer Main.db from classic Skype app to Skype for Windows 10 UWP.

Since I have so many conversation in the classic Skype for Windows, and probably we all need to use the Windows APP somewhere in the future, and since transferring the data is not possible, how do we put in a future request for this with the relevant MS product management/developer department?

Thank you!

PS: Anyone with a (perhaps not-supported) workaround, suggestions welcome!

I would add my vote for a way to transfer Skype history to another device.

For my part I have just changed to an Android from iPhone.

I installed Skype on my Android and only have 30 days of conversations available, so I have been looking for a way to transfer the full conversation to Android from PC Desktop.

Thus I landed here.

Please Microsoft add this to Skype as a wanted update.

Thanks

Dave
