Skype Insider Preview // Browse, share, preview songs… Introducing Spotify Add-in!

Hello, Skype Insiders!

We are excited to introduce the Spotify Add-in to Skype Insiders.

Starting today, the Skype Spotify Add-in will be gradually rolled out to all Skype Insiders in the United States on 8.26 builds and higher. Very soon to all Insiders around the world!

Edit 15.08.2018: Skype Spotify Add-in was released globally to all Insiders! Check if Spotify is available in your country here

Did you ever want to listen and share your favorite songs with your friends or family? Share your favorite tunes with your coworker down the hall or on the other side of the globe? Now in Skype you can preview and share songs with the Spotify Add-in. We’re excited to hear your feedback, let us know what you think!

In a chat, launch the Skype Add-in panel (+ icon) to find and add the Spotify Add-in to your chat.

In the Spotify Add-in you can…

  • Search for songs, albums & artists
  • Preview and Share music
  • Play music on Spotify

Please provide feedback here in the forums or in the app by (gently) shaking your device or going to Skype → Help and feedback. We can´t wait for your insight!

Thank you for all you do to support Skype.

I would suggest you to spend more time on fixing current desktop application( 8.x) at first place. Features like Spotify Add-in might be interesting but quite insignificant when rest of application is hard to use, slow and unreliable.

Hello, thank you for your feedback :) Do you have any more detailed for "hard to use" and unreliable? Is it about UI or anything different? Did you try the Spotify Add-in within the app as well and if yes, how did you like it?

Hi,

I didn't try Spotify Add-in since I'm not US based.

About "hard to use and unreliable". I'm primary talking about Windows Desktop(8.x)version. Some problems:

- UI is slow.

- UI feels like blown up mobile version. Lot of white space everywhere etc.

- It would be nice if search would ignore diacritics. e.g. search for "Sarka" should find "Šárka" and vice versa ;)

- When I have Skype also on mobile phone(android) and I'm currently in front of my PC, my phone should not be ringing. (this is getting better but still not nice)

- notification are not reliable. Sometimes are not coming.

Unreliable - as messages are not synced between devices. (Scary you guys are unaware of this)

Hard to use - confusing screens and/or inconsistent navigation between them and between devices.

inconsistency between Desktop and UWP.

Selecting stereosource, results in mono. Poor sound quality control/monitoring for adv. users. (No prob. with an adv. menu selection with adv. feature management.)

Once a good product, today seriously shaky to the point we look for alternatives.

Edit: regarding stereo remark above, I'm referring to Opus and Skype promises - 'Future Skype users will talk in CD quality (fullband stereo) using Skype.' https://blogs.skype.com/stories/2012/09/12/skype-and-a-new-audio-codec/

Hello :) Thank you for your feedback! I´d like to let you know what you can try the Add-in right now, it just came to our country as well :) For the rest of the things: Thank you for your feedback, I passed it to our teams and we´re really doing our best to get everything on shape. For the adding the new features or features which you are missing in v8 please use the UserVoice which is great tool for that! Thank you again for being with us :)

There needs to be a rebuild for glibc 2.28 or something.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/skype/forum/skype_linux-skype_startms-skype_installms/skype-not-opening-on-fedora-rawhide/c14eb9d2-563d-4697-b77d-077db7d77ffa

Related: https://github.com/Microsoft/vscode/issues/55934

I first encountered the issue over a week ago after upgrading my archlinux system.

Both skype and vscode would segv.

You can see with the latest vscode comment, there was a new glibc update that seems reverted some change I think.

However, while vscode works now, skype still fails in the same exact manner as before.

I debtapped the latest skype insider and the issue is still the same.

EDIT0:

skypeforlinux-8.29.76.16-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

EDIT1:

Ignore this post. I'm just stupid/tired. I think I only debtapped, but not pacman -U the package. I had ls -l /usr/share/skypeforlinux/skypeforlinux and noticed the date was still from April.

It's fine and running right at this moment.

Super Cool feature! 😎

But there is one big problem: If I send a song within the app on Windows 10 and I want to take the chat on the go  with the app on Windows 10 mobile, the chat with these shared Spotify info crashes, because the app on Windows 10 mobile doesn't shows these infos.  that's a big fail in your new App Strategy 😒   I think Skype is the best option to stay close to your friends - no matter which system or device you're using (I like to use it on Windows 10 Desktop/Mobile, web and Xbox).

Please fix this problem and even get the job on the windows 10 mobile app done! Don't give us (users who love using Skype over WhatsApp) one more reason to switch to discord or WhatsApp 🤞

Hello Dustin, thank you for your feedback! :)

Can you please let us know if this is limited to Spotify cards crashing Win10 mobile or is it any card shared from an add-in there?
